Inter-state drug racket busted, woman among 3 arrested with heroin in Shimla's Kotkhai

Three, including an interstate-drug peddler and a woman, have been arrested with 30.6 gram chitta (heroin) from Kotkhai Tehsil in Shimla district, police said here today.

The accused have been identified as Kamal Acharya (46), a resident of Uttam Nagar, Delhi, Ranjan Sharma (35), resident of Dalsar village in Kotkhai tehsil, district Shimla and Suman Shahi (35), resident of Ward number 3 in Kotkhai.

According to police, it received a secret information that one woman who resides in a rented room in Kotkhai is involved in illicit drug trade.

Acting on the information, a police team from Kotkhai raided the said room where the three accused were already present. While searching the room, police recovered the contraband from their possession.

Police then proceeded to arrest the accused and also seized the contraband.

Theog Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Siddharth Sharma confirmed the report and said a case under Section 21 and 29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act 1985 has been registered against the accused in Kotkhai police station and further investigation is underway.

The DSP also revealed that Kamal Acharya was a known drug peddler and was also arrested earlier in Theog with 55 grams of heroin. He further said that Ranjan was also involved in drug trade and already has two cases under the NDPS act registered against him.
