HRTC revenue rises 12% in October
The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) has recorded a 12 per cent rise in revenue in October this year compared to the corresponding period last year. It earned Rs 76.53 crore last month as compared to Rs 68.49 crore in October 2023.
Apart from the measures that the HRTC is taking to streamline its operations and plug losses, a part of the growth in revenue could be attributed to special buses that the corporation ran ahead of Diwali on October 29 and 30 from New Delhi and Chandigarh to various parts of the state to help people reach home for the festival. The corporation is also offering reverse services after Diwali on these routes. Owing to these special buses, the HRTC earned Rs 2.82 crore on October 30, the highest in the month. These services were available on Diwali as well, enabling the HRTC earn Rs 2.72 crore.
Until October, the HRTC has earned Rs 519 crore from passengers this financial year. The revenue in the first seven months, starting from April, was Rs 456 crore in 2023-24 and Rs 458 crore in the first seven months of 2022-23. In this financial year so far, the HRTC has gone past its pre-Covid revenue, which was Rs 503 crore for the first seven months in 2019-20.
