The Department of Laws at Himachal Pradesh University will conduct the National Youth Parliament-2024 on October 4 and 5, focusing on the ‘Creamy Layer and Reservation (Amendment) Bill 2024’. This event aims to familiarise students with parliamentary procedures and provide insight into the workings of the Indian Parliament.

Open to university and college students, the event allows participants to debate and engage in legislative discussions. Eligible participants must be full-time students enrolled in a degree programme and under the age of 25 as of July 1, 2024.

Students will participate individually and may deliver their speeches in either English or Hindi. Constituencies will be assigned based on previous experience, with no cap on the number of participants from any institution. Adherence to event rules is essential, as any indiscipline may lead to disqualification at the discretion of the judges.

Dr Rajender Verma, Pro-Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the Department of Laws, highlighted the unique opportunity the event offers to students. He emphasised that it provides a platform for students to express their views on national issues while developing key skills such as debating, leadership, critical thinking, and public speaking. Moreover, students gain an understanding of policymaking and foster a strong sense of civic responsibility by stepping into the role of lawmakers.

The event promises to engage participants in discussions that will enhance their understanding of key national issues and encourage them to become more informed and responsible citizens.
