HP endured losses due to Jai Ram Thakur: Congress
Dharamsala, July 21
In a press release issued here today, Congress spokesperson Sanjeev Gandhi praised various decisions taken by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and said the Sukhu-led government was working in public interest.
He said the recent decisions of the Congress government like ending the unviable scheme of zero electricity bill and limiting it to one family per meter, while exempting BPL and other categories of electricity consumers from the decision were appreciable. According to him, this will save more than Rs 200 crore per year and also help Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board to minimise losses.
Sanjeev Gandhi said the scheme was launched by former CM Jai Ram Thakur as an election stunt in 2022. “Jai Ram Thakur and the BJP should explain why a poor state like Himachal Pradesh was forced to reel under financial burden for electoral gains,” he added. He said Jai Ram and the BJP had no right to question CM Sukhu.
He said Jai Ram Thakur wanted to come to power by launching this scheme, but his attempt failed and people turned their back on the BJP. “Due to Jai Ram’s poor decision-making, the state had to face severe financial crisis,” he added. The decision to operate flights (seven days a week) between Shimla and Dharamsala will boost the tourism industry, he added.
