Various Hindu organisations on Saturday held a protest under the banner of the Devbhoomi Sangharsh Samiti in the trans-Giri region of Shillai in Sirmaur district and sought the dissolution of the Waqf Board and the demolition of the alleged illegal mosque in Shimla’s Sanjauli.

Hundreds of protesters gathered at the Public Works Department rest house in Shillai and marched through the town. The protest culminated at the Shillai Subdivisional Magistrate’s office, where the protesters submitted a memorandum addressed to the Central Government.

Addressing the protesters, Om Prakash, president of the committee’s Shillai chapter, accused the Waqf Board of illegally occupying public and private land in the state. He called for the immediate dissolution of the board. While the protest remained peaceful, the district administration had deployed additional police force as a precautionary measure.
