Himachal Govt's notice scrapping vacant posts criticised
The Himachal Pradesh Joint Employees Federation has voiced strong objections against a recent government notification abolishing posts that have been vacant in various government departments, boards, and corporations for over two years. Federation president Virender Chauhan and general secretary Hira Lal Verma issued a statement criticising the notification from the state Finance Department, describing it as controversial and poorly thought out. They argued that it has not only caused widespread discontent among state employees but also damaged the state government’s image, prompting the Chief Minister to intervene for clarification.
The federation leaders alleged that certain bureaucrats and advisers were damaging the government’s reputation by offering flawed advice, leading to decisions that create unrest among employees. They urged the Chief Minister to be cautious of such counsel in the future to avoid further unrest.
Expressing concern over the financial difficulties faced by employees, the leaders highlighted that over 50,000 positions remain vacant across government departments and corporations. They criticised the decision to eliminate these unfilled posts, arguing that it is unwise for a welfare-oriented government to do so rather than filling them. “In a welfare state, where promotions are halted, and new positions are not being created, such harsh notifications are only turning employees against the government,” they stated.
Additionally, the federation renewed its call for the restoration of the old pension scheme for HPSEBL staff.
