Himachal Govt has adopted dictatorial approach: Jai Ram Thakur
Shimla, July 7
Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur today accused the state government of threatening people supporting the BJP in the byelections with dire consequences.
Addressing a press conference in Nalagarh, Thakur alleged that the government had extorted money from contractors for elections. “The government has adopted a dictatorial approach to win the byelections. It was harassing BJP supporters in every possible way. The government wants no one to extend any cooperation and support to the BJP. Shopkeepers are being harassed for hoisting BJP flags on their shops. They are being intimidated by the police,” he said.
“Thousands of shopkeepers in the Assembly constituencies have been raided just because they had hoisted BJP flags on their shops. Similarly, employees are also being targeted. Any employee speaking in favour of the BJP is being closely monitored. Ministers of the concerned departments are being made to monitor employees and are issuing strict warnings against supporting BJP,” he claimed.
Thakur further claimed that, apart from contractors and employees, the elected representatives were also being harassed by the government. “Whether it is a panchayat head or BDC member, all have been strictly warned that if the BJP takes lead from their area, they should be prepared to face consequences,” he claimed.
Thakur said that despite Congress’s efforts, the people of the state have rejected them and will not bow to their oppression. “No matter how hard the government tries, BJP, with the blessings, affection, and support of the people, will win all three seats with a huge margin.
Hitting out at the Chief Minister, he said that CM was supposed to hold rallies in Nalagarh and Hamirpur today, but cancelled his programme and went to Dehra fearing defeat in this constituency. “All his efforts will go in vain as he has not done a single public interest work in his one-and-a-half years tenure,” he said.
