Himachal CM’s urban livelihood scheme will become law: Suresh Bhardwaj
Mandi, July 20
Urban Development Minister Suresh Bhardwaj said that the Chief Minister’s Urban Livelihood Guarantee Scheme, launched on the lines of MGNREGA, would soon be given the form of an Act to provide assured employment in urban areas of the state. This would greatly benefit poor people living in urban local bodies.
He said that Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur-led government had started the Chief Minister Urban Livelihood Guarantee Scheme to help poor people of urban areas during Covid crisis. The scheme has given assured employment to the beneficiaries. The government is going to make it a law like MGNREGA soon.
Bhardwaj was here today to attend the PM SVANidhi Mahotsav as a chief guest. He honoured the beneficiaries of the yojana.
The minister said that efforts were being made to include all the urban local bodies of the state in the second phase of the AMRUT Mission. Under this, work will be done to strengthen sewerage and drinking water system in urban areas.
“It is a matter of happiness that Himachal has topped the Himalayan states in PM SVANidhi Yojana. The Mandi Municipal Corporation figures in the top 75 urban local bodies of the country, which is a big achievement. There is no dearth of money for the development of the Mandi Municipal Corporation,” he said.
He urged the Mandi MC authorities to utilise this money properly for these development works.
Bhardwaj targeted Congress MLA from Shimla (Rural) Vikramaditya Singh over his controversial remarks against a woman BJP leader in Rohru. He added that such comments against women were not expected from the son of six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. Vikramditya Singh should respect women, he added.
