An urgent meeting was held at the Himachal Chamber of Commerce and Industries, where Tirupati Group raised concerns over alleged blackmail by two news portals. The company reported filing an FIR at the Paonta Sahib police station, accusing the portals of publishing false information to extort money from it. Following the complaint, the police arrested the portal owners and placed them under a three-day remand. Today, they were granted an additional four-day police custody.

Numerous Chamber members shared similar experiences, revealing that such harassment was not an isolated incident, with several businesses reportedly targeted by similar tactics over time. In response, the chamber unanimously resolved to stand against these actions, adopting a “zero tolerance” policy toward the media outlets that attempt extortion or harassment.

Chamber president Satish Goyal emphasised the collective strength of the industries, encouraging members to report such incidents to the police and the Chamber office immediately. Goyal also recognised the importance of honest journalism, but condemned unethical practices that tarnish the profession.

A resolution was passed urging the local authorities to distance themselves from so-called “blackmailing journalists”, allowing businesses to operate without undue stress. The industries praised the swift police response and called for continued support to prevent future incidents. The meeting saw the participation of 60-70 major local businesses. Many members joined online, showing strong solidarity with the cause.
