Hearing in Sanjauli mosque case to be expedited
Acting on the directions of the Himachal Pradesh High Court, the Municipal Commissioner’s Court has decided to expedite the process of the Sanjauli mosque case. The Commissioner’s Court will also hold the hearing of the remaining two floors of the mosque case before its scheduled date.
The Himachal High Court had directed the Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Shimla, to decide the complaint regarding the alleged unauthorised construction of the Sanjauli mosque within eight weeks. The orders were issued by Justice Sandeep Sharma on a petition filed by the local residents of Sanjauli for early disposal of the complaint of the unauthorised construction.
Municipal Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Shimla Bhupinder Attri, who is also the judge in the case, said that in the spirit of the directions of the Honorable High Court, hearing of the case will also be held before the scheduled date. “Hearing of the remaining part of the mosque will be done soon,” he said.
On October 5, the Commissioner’s Court had directed the Sanjauli Mosque Committee to raze the top three floors of the mosque within the next two months. The court had also directed the committee to bear the expenses of the demolition too. The decision regarding the two floors of the mosque was scheduled for hearing in December 21.
The Sanjauli Mosque Committee has started to dismantle the floors. However, its president had said that the demolition process could take around three to four months due to fund constraints.
