Hamirpur gears up for National Nutrition Month

Several activities, including awareness programmes, sports activities, cultural events and more, would be held in the district during National Nutrition Month to promote health consciousness among people.
This was said by Deputy Commissioner Amarjit Singh here today.
The month of September is National Nutrition Month, and the district administration was ensuring that efforts were being made to ensure the execution of the objective in letter and spirit, the DC added.
He said all departments concerned would be involved to execute programmes pertaining to health, hygiene and nutrition of people, especially children below the age of six.
Departments, including Women and Child Welfare, Health, Ayurveda, Social Justice, Education, Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Public Relation, Youth Services and Sports, Labour, Agriculture, would be involved in the organisation of the programme, he added.
He said apart from awareness and sports activities, health check-up camps would be held, where a number of health tests would be conducted.
A drive to check the presence of anaemia among children and women would be started, and solutions to the disease would also be suggested during the drive, he added.
Singh said programmes “Poshan Bhi-Padhai Bhi” and “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” would also be held alongside the nutrition drive.
Water conservation and water cleanliness programmes, yoga camps and traditional food and nutrition events would also be organised at the village level, he added.
The DC urged officers and residents to make the best use of the month as it would help in building a healthy society in the district.
