Hamirpur Forest Circle overall champions
The Hamirpur circle of the Forest Department emerged the overall champions in the 25th state-level Forest Sports and Duty Competition that concluded at the synthetic track in Dharamsala last evening. The Dharamsala circle took the runners-up trophy.
Manisha of Nahan and Ankita of Hamirpur jointly won the title of Best Female Athlete, while Kulwinder of Mandi was the adjudged best male athlete. Nearly 800 Forest Department employees from 13 forest circles participated in various sports events.
Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. The Forest Department presented a cheque for Rs 34 lakh to the Agriculture Minister on behalf of the Eco Tourism Society for the state government.
In his address, the minister said, “Our state is rich in forest wealth and forests are our real capital. Therefore, it is very important for the officers and employees working for the conservation and development of forests to stay fit.”
Earlier, the Agriculture Minister inaugurated the Zero Waste Nature Education Trail built at a cost of Rs 11 lakh in Triund. The project has been set up by the Dharamsala Forest Circle and NGO Waste Warriors. The minister said the trail would give the message to new generation to stay connected with nature and preserve it.
