Himachal Pradesh Health Secretary today suspended the service of a gynaecologist posted at Una district hospital following allegations of negligence causing the death of a woman during a surgery. The government doctor performed the surgery at a private hospital on Thursday.

Chief Mdeical Officer Dr Sanjeev Verma said that the patient Jaswinder Kaur belonging to Majara village in Punjab had come for treatment at the Una district hospital. Dr Swinky Jain, the female gynaecologist posted at the district hospital, reportedly advised the patient to get admitted in a private hospital for surgery where she herself went to perform the operation. The patient died at the private hospital.

The CMO said a preliminary inquiry conducted by the Medical Superintendent Dr Sanjay Mankotia at the Una district hospital concluded the fault of the doctor. A report was submitted to the Health Directorate. He said Health Secretary M Sudha Devi today suspended the services of the doctor. An inquiry team will be constituted by the Directorate for a detailed probe into the incident.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased woman today met the Chief Medical Officer demanding that the service of the erring doctor be terminated.
