A team from the Geological Survey of India (GSI) based in Chandigarh conducted a comprehensive inspection of landslide and the subsidence-affected areas in the Prashar region of Mandi district yesterday. Accompanied by local officials, including Tehsildar, Kanungo and Patwari, the team went about the task of evaluating the current condition of the area and assess potential risks associated with geological instability.

Risk mgmt strategies

The GSI team will compile a detailed report outlining necessary steps that need to be taken to prevent landslides and subsidence in the region. This report will serve as a critical resource for the district administration to formulate and implement effective risk management strategies. Additional DM, Mandi

Additional District Magistrate, Mandi, Dr Madan Kumar said that “the inspection team focused on gathering geological data to understand the underlying factors contributing to the recent landslides. By studying the region’s geological features, the GSI team intends to suggest preventive measures that can help mitigate future disasters. This proactive approach is essential for ensuring the safety of residents and minimising property damage in the event of further geological activity.”

“GSI officials highlighted the importance of such inspections, especially in the areas prone to landslides, which can be triggered by heavy rainfall, seismic activity or human interventions. The team utilised various tools and techniques to analyse soil composition, rock stability and drainage patterns, which are crucial for identifying risk factors,” the ADM said.
