Governor flags off HP Police Half Marathon; over 3,000 take part

As many as 3,150 participants, including children, youth, senior citizens as well as specially abled persons, participated in the 11th HP Police Half Marathon-2024 that was organised by the Himachal Pradesh Police on the theme “Swasth Himachal, Nasha Mukt Himachal” aimed to spread awareness about the importance of a drug-free and healthy lifestyle.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla flagged off the marathon from the historic Ridge, located at the heart of the state’s capital.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the enthusiasm shown by every section of the society against the menace of drugs through this marathon was commendable. “People participated in this race with the message of the evil of drugs, which is a matter of satisfaction,” he said.

While congratulating the police for organising the marathon, he said that this effort of the police would prove effective in taking this campaign of drug-free Himachal to every household. He further said that the dignity of Devbhoomi would be restored and drug use would be eradicated.

He also called upon the people to contribute in making the state drug free and extend support to every campaign against drugs.

The Governor also administered an oath to the participants to stay away from drugs. In the 21.5-kilometre Half Marathon, Manoj Singh stood first, Rohit second and Shiva Kundu was third in the men’s category while Ruby Kashyap emerged first, Arpita Saini and Kaneejo stood second and third in the women’s category.

In 10 km Mini Marathon, Sourav Thakur stood first, Lovepreet Singh second and Suraj third under men’s category while Munni emerged first, Jyoti Bala second and Raveena Kumari third in the women’s category.

In the three-kilometre Dream Run men and women category, Anamika and Savan stood first in the 10-15 age group, Vipasha Verma and Shivansh was first in the 16-30 age group, Heema Devi and Shashi Bhushan won in the 31-45 age group, Bujeta Saw and Tara Chand triumphed in the 46-60 age group while Neelam Sharma and Gopal Singh emerged victorious in the 61-74 age group.

The Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Anirudh Singh, distributed prizes to the winners.
