Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh today said that the state government would soon convene a meeting with sanitation workers to resolve their issues. Attending a programme organised by ‘The George Institution for Global Health’ at the Gaiety Theatre here, the minister said the sanitation workers played a vital role keeping the town clean.

Understanding and appreciating their contribution in keeping Shimla neat and clean, the government stood firmly with them, he added.

“A meeting with the Safai Karamchari Union will soon be held and a positive decision will be taken on their demands and concerns after detailed discussions,” he said.

On the occasion, the minister said the government was committed to providing better facilities to the town residents and improving sewerage system was its priority.

Shimla MLA Harish Janartha said the Shimla Environment, Heritage Conservation and Beautification (SEHB) Society had 500 sanitation workers to begin with in 2009 and the number had increased to 1,500 now. He asked the Shimla Municipal Corporation Mayor to hold the General House of the SEHB Society at the earliest to discuss their demands and issues.
