Freedom of press should not be compromised, says Congress’ Pratibha Singh

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) president and former MP Pratibha Singh here today congratulated the journalism community on National Press Day, and said press was very important in democracy and its freedom should not be affected in any way.

In a statement issued by Singh, she said the importance of the media could never be underestimated.

In a democracy, the press acted as the eyes and ears of any government, she added.

“In order to maintain the credibility of the press, it is important that any news or article should be written with complete facts, and any kind of sensational articles should be avoided,” she said.

Singh has called upon the journalists to give importance to developmental news apart from politics, so that people could get the full benefit of the development plans and programmes of the government.

Emphasising the need to encourage journalists for good writing and for media houses to formulate plans for their welfare, she said all efforts must be made to ensure that the future of working journalists was secure.
