Former CM Virbhadra Singh’s statue to be installed at Ridge in Shimla
A statue of six-time Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh will be installed at Daulat Singh Park at the historic Ridge soon. This was stated by Shimla Municipal Commissioner Bhupinder Attri during the monthly meeting of the Municipal Corporation held at Bacchat Bhawan here today.
Attri said the proposal to instal the statue of the late leader at the Ridge came some time back, but they were looking for a suitable place. “Now, we have identified a place on the Ridge and the statue will be installed soon. It will be installed at Daulat Singh Park between the statues of Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar, the first CM of the state, and Lieutenant General Daulat Singh, after whom the park was named.
Earlier, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had said a statue of the senior Congress leader would be installed at the Ridge. He had said an appropriate place was being identified for it.
Yellow line parking
The Municipal Corporation is set to make yellow line parking along the MC roads. A proposal in this regard was passed at the monthly meeting of the MC.
Municipal Corporation Mayor Surender Chauhan said councillors via Point of Order had stated that people were parking their vehicles on the roadside, while the MC parking remained vacant.
He said taking cognizance of the matter, the civic body had proposed to set up the yellow line parking spots and people will be charged for using the facility.
“Many roads in the state’s capital are maintained by the Public Works Department (PWD), Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and the Municipal Corporation. The yellow line parking spots will be made available to the people along the roads that are being maintained by the civic body,” the Mayor said.
“A further decision on this regard will be taken in the general house meetings after a thorough discussion,” he added.
During the meeting, it was also decided that Safai Jamadars will be appointed in all wards of the town.
The decision was taken after Nisha Thakur, councillor from the New Shimla Ward, asked that why no appointment of ‘dafadars’ had been made in the Health Department in the past one year. To this, the Commissioner said the department was facing a shortage of Safai Karamcharis, which was the reason behind the non-appointment of workers in New Shimla and many other wards.
