Experts discuss future of Indian languages
Wazir Ram Singh Government College, Dehri, organised an online national webinar on ‘Future of Indian Languages in Digital Era’ to mark the Indian Language Festival on Thursday.
Keynote speaker, Prof Puran Chand Tandon (former professor, Department of Hindi, University of Delhi), delivered an in-depth analysis of the past, present, and future of Indian languages. Highlighting the contributions of literary figures like Amir Khusraw, Vidyapati, Guru Gobind Singh, Bharatendu Harishchandra, and Rabindranath Tagore, he shed light on the cultural richness of Indian languages.
Tandon emphasised the necessity of translating works of Tamil poet Subramanya Bharathi into other Indian languages and stressed efforts to empower Indian languages on digital platforms. Principal Dr Sachin Kumar elaborated on the concept of linguistic democracy, reflecting on the sensitivity and equality of languages. He briefed the audience on the importance of preserving and promoting Indian languages, interpreting terms like ‘Samadrit,’ ‘Prahari,’ and ‘Prayokta’ used by the keynote speaker.
The webinar, coordinated by Dr Neha Mishra and Assistant Professor Vipin Kumar, saw participation from 42 members, including professors, researchers, and students from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh. This webinar inspired meaningful discussions on strengthening and preserving Indian languages in the digital age.
