Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap on Thursday requested banking officials to provide maximum benefits of social security schemes to the needy families so that they can avail of the benefits.

Financial literacy camps organised

A total of 214 financial literacy camps has been organised by banks to make people of rural areas aware of the government schemes and banking system. — Anupam Kashyap, Shimla Deputy Commissioner

A meeting of the district level quarterly review and advisory committee was organised here today under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner. In the meeting, various schemes related to the banking sector were discussed in detail at the block level.

In Shimla district, 3.2 lakh people have registered under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, 1.35 lakh under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and 64,727 under Atal Pension Yojana.

Kashyap said till June 2024, Rs 3.39 crore had been provided to 130 self-help groups as loan assistance to increase the livelihood of rural women. Besides, under Pradhan Mantri Swarojgar Srijan Karyakram an amount of Rs 1.7 crore had been sanctioned under 22 cases in the district till June 2024.

The Deputy Commissioner said a district-level financial literacy camp will be organised in Dodra Kwar, a remote area of Shimla district, this month so that people of the area can get information about government schemes and banking system.

District officials and banking officials will be present in the camp. Efforts will be made to include as many people as possible from five panchayats of the area in the awareness camp and their problems will be resolved.

The DC said 214 financial literacy camps had been organised by banks to make people of rural areas aware of the government schemes and the banking system. Rural Self-Employment Training Institute and Financial Literacy and Counselling Centres have provided training to 198 people.

On the occasion, Kashyap honoured the Punjab National Bank officer who did the best work under the Prime Minister Swanidhi Yojana by giving him a certificate. Leading District Manager UCO Bank Bhima Dutta, representatives of RBI and NABARD and banking officials were also present.
