Efforts underway to resume classes at flood-affected schools in Samej
In the aftermath of the severe flood in the Samej khud on the night of July 31, efforts are being made to resume classes at the local schools.
Claiming 36 lives, the flood had devastated the Samej village. Dozens of houses were washed away, while the primary and senior secondary schools here were left in ruins in the natural disaster.
In a bid to facilitate the education of local students, officials, employees and members of the women’s club from the SJVN Nathpa Jhakri power station have collectively donated five computers and other equipment, worth approximately Rs 2.5 lakh, to the senior secondary school.
According to SJVN officials, every possible effort is being made to restore normalcy and ensure that the education of students was not disrupted. The project management is said to have made significant contributions to ensure that both primary and senior secondary schools of Samej could resume functioning.
The school’s faculty members expressed their gratitude to the SJVN. They said the firm was the largest contributor to the school, providing everything from furniture to computers.
Even at the time of disaster, the SJVN’s security and medical teams had promptly arrived after the flood to carry out relief and rescue operations.
Manoj Kumar, Executive Director and Head of the Nathpa Jhakri power station, stated that as soon as the project team received news about flood in the Samej khud, security and medical teams were immediately dispatched to the site to offer assistance.
Subsequently, the power station provided essential support to over 150 officials and personnel involved in relief operations. Apart from the power station, employees and members of the women’s club also collected funds to contribute to the school’s recovery.
Anamika Singh, patron of the women’s club, explained that she motivated women to come forward and contribute to efforts in aiding the local schools. She expressed hope that such incidents would inspire a sense of service and responsibility among women.
Kamal Chand Thakur, Principal of the senior secondary school Samej, praised the SJVN for its continuous support, stating that the assistance had exceeded their expectations. He said almost all needs of the school had now been met, owing to the SJVN’s contributions.
