Earth takes centre stage at Kinnaur film festival
To raise awareness about environmental conservation and sustainability among the residents of Kinnaur, the Department of Environment, Science & Technology, Himachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the Kinnaur district administration and Zed.tells, organised an Environment Film Festival today at the Savings Hall in Reckong Peo.
Documentaries and films were showcased to provide detailed information about environmental preservation.
Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Sharma attended the event as the chief guest. He emphasised the urgent need to combat changes caused by global warming by raising public awareness about environmental protection.
He highlighted the significance of such film festivals in spreading this message effectively. Sharma said excessive deforestation, pollution at various levels, incidents of forest fires, urban migration, and the use of chemical fertilisers were key contributors to environmental changes.
He urged everyone to take responsibility at an individual level, and work towards conserving the environment. He also encouraged the attendees to actively participate in reducing pollution and spreading awareness about environmental protection.
During the event, Sharma visited exhibitions and painting displays related to environmental conservation.
The festival also included discussions where participants shared their thoughts on environmental preservation. Experts engaged in online sessions to address public queries and concerns.
The Forest Department organised an exhibition to educate people about forest conservation and the importance of trees.
