In a move to enhance road safety and prevent traffic violations, the Himachal Pradesh Police will be launching a 15-day special campaign to address the critical issues such as overloading of vehicles, unsafe transportation of goods, and illegal passenger transport in goods vehicles. The campaign is scheduled to begin from November 18 and will continue till December.

Narvir Singh Rathour, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP), Traffic, Tourism, and Railway (TTR), said, “With this campaign, the police aim to prevent unsafe transportation practices and ensure safer roads, minimise road damage caused by overloaded vehicles, enforce traffic rules to reduce accidents and fatalities. During this campaign, the police will keep an eye on overloading in commercial vehicles, materials being protruded dangerously from vehicles, passenger overloading in public transport and illegal transportation of passengers in goods vehicles.”

“The campaign will focus on strict enforcement of motor vehicle laws such as Sections 194 (1)(A), 113, 190 (2) and 125 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and rule 93 of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989, besides relevant BNS provisions that will be applicable to cases of dangerous and reckless driving,” he said.

To ensure the campaign’s success, the Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Atul Verma has directed all Superintendents of Police and the Government Railway Police to develop effective strategies for campaign execution and to conduct field inspections and take strict action against the violators. The officials have also been directed to submit daily compliance reports to the Traffic, Tourist, and Railway (TTR) Headquarters by 10 am. — TNS
