Dharamsala bus stand to be named after late GS Bali
Dharamsala, July 27
Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri presided over a rally and cultural programme organised in Nagrota Bagwan town today to mark the 70th birth anniversary of GS Bali.
While addressing the rally in Nagrota Bagwan, Agnihotri announced that the Dharamsala bus stand would be named after late Congress Minister GS Bali. He said Bali had done a lot of work in transport sector in the state and was instrumental in bringing various development projects in Kangra, including Tanda Medical College and Rajiv Gandhi Hydro Engineering College. He also praised RS Bali, the Chairman of Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (HPTDC) for continuing the legacy of his father.
Prominent Congress leaders, including Digvijay Singh, Rajya Sabha member and CWC member of AICC; Minister for Town and Country Planning and Technical Education Rajesh Dharmani; Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Yadwinder Goma; Gagret MLA Rakesh Kalia; and former MLAs Jagjivan Pal, Surinder Kaku and Ajay Mahajan were also present.
Digvijay Singh praised GS Bali for leaving an imprint on the state and his constituency. Earlier, Rajesh Dharmani had named the Polytechnic College of Nagrota Bagwan in the name of GS Bali. While addressing the rally, Dharmani said besides transport, GS Bali had done phenomenal work in the field of technical education in the state. He was instrumental behind opening of many technical education colleges in the state, including IIT-Mandi, IIM-Sirmour and many other colleges during his tenure as a minister.
GS Bali had started the tradition of organising Bal Mela in Nagrota Bagwan about 17 years ago on the eve of his birthday on June 27. The event extends across three days and was marked with organisation of medical camps and blood donation camps on the first two days and a cultural programme and rally on the concluding day. Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi also performed at the rally today.
