Former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, during a protest rally in Mandi today, said that the BJP would not let the state government to close down Sardar Patel University in Mandi.

Thakur, while addressing a gathering at Seri Manch, said that the Congress was irritated by the name of the university, which is named after iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the pioneer of India’s unity and integrity. He added that the mala fide intentions and conspiracies of the government would not succeed.

The Leader of the Opposition said that the government had shunned the ‘Shiv Dham’ project and diverted Rs 1,000 crore allocated for the Balh International Airport. He alleged that the Congress did not get support from Mandi in the Assembly elections and “therefore the Chief Minister wants to take revenge by halting development works in the constituency.

He said that the government has unleashed a political vendetta and the BJPwould fight it on streets.

Former Chief Minister alleged that only one crusher was allowed operations after the disaster last year and people had to pay around five times more for the construction material. He added, “The crusher operators were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The Chief Minister claimed that he did not know them, while a video of an operator travelling in Sukhu’s car had gone viral.”

Thakur said, “The government has crossed all limits of corruption in just two years of rule. Power comes and goes but the Congress has become arrogant and the entire state is suffering its consequences.”

He alleged that the government would be held accountable for irregularities in providing disaster relief as it was provided to influential people instead of the affected families.

Thakur said that the government was going to celebrate the completion of its two years in office and was planning to spend crores of rupees on the celebrations.
