Dehar Khud to be channelled to check flashfloods: Minister
The state government has sanctioned Rs 5.74 crore for the channelisation of Dehar Khud in the Kotla region of the Jawali Assembly constituency in Kangra district. This was stated by local MLA and Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Minister Chander Kumar while listening to grievances of the residents at Kotla on Wednesday.
He addressed most of the public grievances on the spot and forwarded unsolved issues to the concerned department officials for their early disposal.
While addressing a public gathering, the minister said that the flashfloods that had lashed the Dehar Khud during the rainy season had played havoc with the agriculture land and houses in the surrounding villages. Now, the government had proposed a permanent solution to the problem by channeling it. He added the work would start shortly.
“Apart from this, a provision of Rs 4.90 crore has been made for the construction of protection walls, crates and pillars in Kotla town tender for which has recently been awarded,” he said.
Chander Kumar said that the irrigation facility was being strengthened in Kotla region. He revealed that the state government had sanctioned Rs 4.23 crore for the proposed lift irrigation scheme in Jangal gram panchayat. “Under this irrigation scheme, water will be lifted from the Brahal Khud to irrigate fields. Apart from this, Rs 3.93 crore is being spent on Soldha Lift Irrigation Scheme,” he said.
The minister said Rs 88 lakh was being spent on the repair of the Boh-Darini scheme, which was damaged during the monsoon last year.
He said that the people of Kotla region had suffered huge loss due to rain disaster during last year’s monsoon season and the state government had released Rs 7 lakh for the sufferers. Land was also provided to them for constructing new homes.
