Declare six roads as NH, Gadkari urged
Shimla, July 22
The state government has urged Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, to declare six roads in the state as national highways. Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh, while addressing mediapersons here, said that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and he had made this request to Gadkari during their recent visit to New Delhi.
Rs 152 cr grant sought
- Vikramaditya Singh said that the Chief Minister urged the Centre to sanction Rs 152 crore, as promised by Gadkari during his visit to the state after the rain disaster last year
- The state government also requested Minister for Housing and Urban Affair Manohar Lal Khattar for another smart city project for the state
“Among the six roads the most important is the Katasani-Sheela-Badhani-Bobujot stretch, an alternative road to the strategically important Pathankot-Mandi-Kullu-Manali highway. The road will cut down distance from Kangra to Manali by 60 km and travel time by around two hours,” said Vikramaditya.
He said, “Apart from facilitating the movement of security forces, tourists will reach Manali from the Gaggal airport a lot earlier using this alternative road.” He added that Gadkari had asked the state government to send the proposal for the Bobujot tunnel.
The other roads that the state wanted to be declared as national highways are Jawala ji-Dehra-Raja ka Talab in Kangra, Kalur-Badsar-Shahtalai in Bilaspur, Slapar-Tatapani-Luri, Darman-Chuwari-Jot-Chamba-Tissa in Chamba and Shimla-Kunihar-Rahshahr-Nalagarh.
