In a major crackdown on illicit drug trade within the state, the police have arrested seven peddlers in seven different cases. The police have also seized 100 gm of heroin and 10 kg of charas (cannabis) from the accused.
The police also seized cash amounting to more than Rs 8 lakh, various digital devices and incriminating documents related to movable and immovable properties of the peddlers. Director General of Police (DGP) Dr Atul Verma said the state police had conducted a series of searches across 10 districts under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
“The operation targeted around 50 locations in Kangra, Nurpur, Chamba, Una, Dehra, Hamirpur, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi and Bilaspur districts. These searches, conducted under the jurisdiction of various police stations, were aimed at seizing narcotic drugs and gathering crucial evidence,” he said.
“This operation reflects the state police’s ongoing commitment to combating the illegal drug trade and ensuring the safety and well-being of our people. The police will continue to take strict action against those involved in such illicit activities,” said the DGP.
