Couple held for running interstate drug network
The Palampur police have arrested the kingpin of an interstate drug racket and his wife from Jalandhar. The duo was allegedly running a heroin (chitta) distribution network in Palampur and Mandi districts.
The accused have been identified as Abhishek Sahota (23) and his wife Punit Kaur, residents of Bariyana village in Jalandhar. Their arrest follows an FIR registered at the local police station on November 20, after an individual was held with heroin.
During investigation, it was revealed that local drug peddlers in the region were receiving supplies from Jalandhar-based distributors. Acting on these findings, a special police team led by SHO Bhupinder Singh, under the supervision of SP Kangra, raided a house in Bariyana village, resulting in the arrest of Abhishek and his wife. Both were brought to Palampur and produced in a local court, which remanded them to police custody.
DSP, Palampur, Lokinder Negi said, “After the arrest of local peddlers, the police uncovered an interstate drug trade network operating in the district, headed by Abhishek from Jalandhar. A police team was dispatched to apprehend him.”
Negi added, “The couple has been involved in the illicit drug trade for a long time and was running an interstate racket. They procured drugs from peddlers in Punjab and supplied these in Kangra district.”
