Corruption has peaked in Himachal, govt dependent on Central aid: JP Nadda
Corruption is at its peak in Himachal Pradesh and the state government is dependent on the Central aid even for running its petty affairs, said JP Nadda, national BJP president, while addressing party workers at Bilaspur today.
He said that the situation was so miserable that the government had imposed a toilet tax in the state. This showed the poor mind set of Congress leaders, as the tax had affected the reputation of the state.
Nadda said that the Congress always played the card of caste and religion to divide society to fulfil its political interests. He alleged that the Congress was synonymous with anti-nationalism.
He said that it was the BJP government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that had brought development to the state. He added that projects like four-lane highways, tunnels and over 93,000 houses for homeless were some of the development projects that had brought prosperity to the state.
Nadda said that other development projects in the state included AIIMS at Bilaspur, three medical collages at Hamirpur, Chamba and Nahan, Super Speciality Hospital and a Cancer Hospital in Shimla, Hydro Engineering College at Bilaspur, three cement factories, bulk drug park in Una and a medical devices park.
He said that a bridge for which former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had laid the foundation stone was constructed by former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. He alleged that a Congress leader was reportedly involved in an Rs 5,600 crore drug racket.
Nadda alleged that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi always denigrated India whenever he visited abroad. He said, “India has become the fifth largest economy of the world due to the policies of the Narendra Modi government. The country is growing at the rate of 6.8 per cent, as per a World Bank’s report.”
He alleged that Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was the first Chief Minister of the state who had failed to provide salaries to government employees on time. He added that instead providing facilities to people, Sukhu had closed a number of government institutions that were started by former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
Nadda claimed that the BJP government had given Rs 1,190 crore in four installments to the state to overcome disaster losses.
Jai Ram Thakur said that Himachal would remain indebted to the Prime Minister for his support to the state. He added that now only ‘air’ was not taxed in the state and people were being burdened with taxes.
He alleged that the Congress government had imposed an Rs 25 toilet tax, which had lowered the reputation of the state.
Hamirpur MP and former Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur said that the state had got six medical colleges and a railway line to Bilaspur due to the efforts of Nadda. He added that the Prime Minister had given boost to the development of the state.
He alleged that the Sukhu government had failed to fulfil the guarantees that the Congress had given to people before the 2022 Assembly elections. He added that development had halted and welfare schemes were being delayed in the state.
