Cooking contest held at culinary institute in Hamirpur
The National Finishing and Culinary Institute (NFCI) here on Tuesday organised a cooking competition to judge the skills of its students from across 20 centres in North India. Thirty-eight students participated in the event, showcasing their preparation skills of various food items.
Institute of Hotel Management Head of Department Puneet Banta inaugurated the competition, and appreciated the students and management for organising such events.
He said hotel management had become an attractive career as many students from the state were working in multi-national hotel chains.
Attractive salaries in the hospitality industry was motivating youngsters towards pursuing courses in hotel management.
NFCI branch manager Banita Kumari said the competition would be completed in three phases — the first phase was organised yesterday; while the second round would be held on December 24; and the final would on January 31 next year at Pushpa Gujral Science City in Kapurthala, Punjab.
The winners of the competition would be awarded with cash prizes of Rs 51,000, Rs 31,000 and Rs 21,000, she added.
