Congress has lost moral right to rule, says ex-CM
The Congress government in the state has lost moral right to continue in power, said Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur while addressing the Jan Akrosh rally of the BJP in the Zorawar Singh Stadium here today. Thousands of BJP workers participated in the rally.
Thakur said that in two years of rule, the Congress government had pushed the state on the verge of bankruptcy. “The BJP is ready to push the Congress government out of power with the support of people,” he added.
He said, “The Congress had celebrated its two years in power at Bilaspur on December 11. Despite efforts made by the state party leadership, no central Congress leader participated in the rally. This clearly showed that even senior Congress leaders are not happy with the working of the state government.”
Thakur said, “People are now repenting having voted for the Congress. The state government had spent Rs 25 crore on the rally to celebrate its two years in power but it did not have money to pay salaries to outsourced employees for the past five months.”
He alleged that officers of doubtful integrity were being given prime postings in the government. “An official against whom Congress leaders had spoken in the Vidhan Sabha during the previous BJP government was now occupying a prime post. Such officials were removed from their posts after allegations of corruption were levelled against them,” he added.
The former Chief Minister said that some notifications of the Congress government had made Himachal a laughing stock in the entire country. “The Congress is blaming the BJP for raking up the issue while the state government is taking erratic decisions and then withdrawing them after public outrage,” he added.
Sullah MLA and former Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar said, “The people of the state are being burdened with taxes but the government is still facing a financial crisis. Power and water charges have been raised, burdening common people. The Congress government has removed around 10,000 youth recruited on the outsourced basis. Many jobs in various government departments have been abolished. This is injustice with the unemployed youth of the state.”
Dharamsala MLA Sudhir Sharma alleged that the Congress government was discriminating against Kangra. “Many development projects such as a campus of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh (CUHP) at Jadrangal in Dharamsala and an international convention centre funded by the Union Government has failed to take off,” he added.
