Congress hails upgrade of Hamirpur civic body
Hamirpur witnessed celebrations as Congress leaders hailed the state cabinet’s decision to upgrade the Hamirpur Municipal Committee to a Municipal Corporation. A rally was organised at Gandhi Chowk, with leaders emphasising the development benefits this decision would bring to the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress’ Dr Pushpinder Verma highlighted that the move would expand urban facilities to newly merged areas, addressing the lack of civic amenities in surrounding villages. He credited Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for initiating various development projects in the district, including a new bus stand under construction at an estimated cost of Rs 90 crore.
Kuldeep Pathania, chairman of Kangra Central Cooperative Bank, announced that approximately 15 gram panchayats around the town would be integrated into the proposed Municipal Corporation. He assured that these areas would soon benefit from improved urban infrastructure and amenities.
Ajay Sharma, Chairman of the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee, described the upgradation as a breakthrough for the district. He praised the CM for setting a minimum support price (MSP) for natural farming crops, with wheat at Rs 40 per kg and maize at Rs 30 per kg—significantly higher than the standard MSP.
Several senior Congress leaders, including Tej Nath, Devi Dass Thakur, Raju Chaudhary and Suman Bharti, were present, expressing optimism about the uniform development of the district under the new corporation
The decision is expected to bring significant funding for infrastructure development.
