The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh has taken over Rs 27,000 crore loans in the past 18 months, former Union Minister for Information Broadcasting Anurag Thakur said here today.

He had also made similar allegations while addressing public meetings at several places in the Hamirpur parliamentary constituency, including Nadaun, yesterday.

Anurag, in a statement issued here, said, “During its 18 months’ tenure, the Congress government has taken more than Rs 27,000 crore loans as it did not have the budget to get development works done in the state.”

The Hamirpur MP said that the Congress government had given nothing to people but continuously made plans to collect money from them. “Roads in the state are in a bad condition and the Chief Minister’s Assembly constituency of Nadaun is no exception,” he added.

He said, “There is tax burden on everything, be it electricity, water, roads, education or health. The power subsidy that the previous BJP government was giving to people has been stopped and the rural population has been burdened with water charges.”

Anurag claimed that the BJP had enrolled more than 16.5 lakh people as its primary members in the state and the membership drive was still going on. “Party workers are the backbone of the BJP and their needs and aspirations should be taken into consideration,” he added.

He urged the people of the state to join the BJP by giving a call on toll free number 8800002024.
