Una, July 17

BJP state president Rajeev Bindal today said that the Congress government had not only backtracked on the poll promise of providing 300 units of free electricity to consumers but also discontinued 125 units of free power being given by the previous BJP government.

Bindal said that the Congress government had shut more than 1,500 public institutions, including 350 schools, which were functional during the previous BJP government. He added that besides 125 units of free power, public welfare schemes like Sahara and Himcare were also non-functional and the list of non-functional public welfare schemes was quite long.

He said that anti-public decisions were the only achievement of the Congress government during its one-and-a-half year rule. He addressed mediapersons after presiding over a meeting of the Una district BJP office-bearers here. The meeting was held with regard to the upcoming State BJP Working Committee meeting.

Bindal said that Congress leaders had been claiming that their party had become stronger after the Assembly byelections. In that case, they should be working for the welfare of people, who had voted in their favour.

He said that the Congress government had pushed the state back by at least 10 years in terms of development that had come to a halt. He added that the questions raised by the BJP to Congress leaders on the free power issue had remained unanswered.

The BJP president said that the rates of motor fuel had been increased, putting an additional burden of Rs 25,000 crore every year on the people of the state.

Bindal added that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had conceded a lead to the BJP in his own Assembly segment of Nadaun in the recent Lok Sabha elections while the ruling party lost the Rajya Sabha election despite having a majority in the Assembly. This amply proved that there was dissatisfaction and resentment among Congress leaders and workers.

BJP state vice-president Sanjeev Katwal and secretary Sumit Sharma, district BJP president Balbir Chaudhary and general secretary Raj Kumar Pathania also attended the meeting.
