Congress govt a sinking ship, dependent on Centre: Anurag Thakur
Local MP and former Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur today alleged that the Congress government in Himachal was a sinking ship, as it was dependent on the Central Government even for petty expenses.
He said that the state was heading towards bankruptcy due to mismanagement and failure of the Congress government to carry out development. He added that most of the development works were stalled and any project still in progress was due to the assistance of the Union Government.
He said that many schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Pradhan Mantra Gramin Sadak Yojana, road construction with aid from the CRIF and drinking water schemes were being executed with funds from the Central Government. He added that the condition of roads even in the home constituency of the Chief Minister had worsened in the past few months.
Anurag said that the state government could not fulfil the expectations of the people of the state. He added that the government also failed to fulfil the promises that the Congress had made to people before the 2022 Assembly elections. He added that the Congress government was about to complete two years in office but it was yet to do welfare of people or development in the state.
He alleged, “The government has instead lowered the reputation of the state by imposing ‘toilet tax’ that was denounced across the country. On the other hand, the Central Government has built 12 crore toilets across the country. Generating funds for the state exchequer from ‘toilet tax’ has exposed the thinking of the Congress and its leaders.”
Anurag said that the Congress had promised 300 units of free electricity, free water, Rs 1,500 per month to women, purchase cow dung for Rs 2 and milk for Rs 100 etc. but after assuming power, it imposed additional taxes. He added that the youth were still waiting for five lakh jobs and people were waiting for 300 units of free electricity.
He said due to the financial mess created by the Congress government, the state had sunk into a debt of Rs 96,000 crore and it would rise to Rs 1 lakh crore by the end of the year. He added, “The Centre had suppored Himachal during the rain disaster last year. He added that last year, when the state faced a disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took all measures for the rescue and relief of people and also helped in their rehabilitation.
He alleged that the Congress government did not use the money received from the Centre properly. He added that Union Rural Development Minister Giriraj Singh had sanctiond 16,206 houses for the state to be built at a cost of Rs 2,373 crore and 2,700 km roads for the state.
He said that the Prime Minister had sanctioned a relief of Rs 360 crore in two installments of Rs 180 crore each. He also gave around Rs 400 crore for the repair of roads damaged during the disaster. Earlier, Anurag accompanied by BJP leaders paid obeisance at the Awahdevi temple.
