The BJP yesterday accused the Congress government of not recognising the Centre’s contribution in Himachal’s infrastructure development and politicising the issue.

State BJP president Rajeev Bindal, in a statement issued here, reiterated that the Central Government had always protected the interests of Himachal and helped it during all crisis. “The state government is playing politics on the issue of disasters, which is not in the interest of the state and its people,” he added.

He said that infrastructure development was the biggest basis for taking the economy forward. “The Congress cannot deny the Centre’s contribution to infrastructure development in Himachal. By doing so, the Congress is insulting the Central Government, which is not in the interest of the state,” he added.

Bindal said that the Narendra Modi government had given the maximum support to the hill state in infrastructure development. “The revolution in the construction of rural roads in Himachal has happened only due to the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana started by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee from Himachal. Around, 50 per cent of the rural roads have been constructed under this scheme,” he added.

He said, “Even now the Central government is extending similar support to Himachal, which the state government must recognise,” he said. He said it is owing to the help from the Centre that the road network in Himachal had been strengthened.

He said, “A few years ago, the construction of tunnels in Himachal was just a dream. However, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi who made the dream of the Atal Tunnel a reality and now the work on many other big tunnels, bridges and wide roads between Keylong and Ladakh is underway.”
