Committee dwells on terrorist-gangster nexus
The 11th meeting of the Northern Region Police Coordination Committee (NRPCC) was held here on Friday, with special emphasis laid on issues such as inter-state terrorist-gangster-criminal nexus and strategies to combat drug trafficking.
The meeting, chaired by DGP Atul Verma, was aimed at strengthening cooperation, addressing emerging challenges, and exploring innovative solutions to various policing issues across the northern region. Senior officers representing police departments from member states and union territories, along with officials of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Central Police Organisations (CPOs), participated in the discussions.
Verma, while welcoming the delegates, urged them to actively participate in discussions, share insights and engage with their peers. The key topics discussed during the meeting included intelligence sharing on the inter-state terrorist-gangster-criminal nexus, strategies to combat drug trafficking, mechanisms to counter fake news on social media, online fraud, human trafficking, and the integration of technology, especially AI, in policing.
This time, delegates, including SPs and DGPs from Punjab, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Ladakh, attended the meeting. Officials from the CISF, CRPF, NDRF, ITBP, SSB, NSG, RPF, CBI and the NIA also attended the meeting.
The HP Police highlighted common concerns related to tourists, organised crime, drug trafficking and strengthening of borders shared by the neighbouring states in the region. Presentations were also made by delegates from Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab and the ITBP.
The NRPCC established in 2015 includes police heads from Haryana, J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, and Delhi and the meeting is held every six months.
