Come forward to help needy, Sirmaur DC urges residents

Sirmaur Deputy Commissioner Sumit Khimta, who is also and the president of the District Red Cross Society, highlighted the crucial role played by the Red Cross Society in serving humanity. He urged all residents to voluntarily become patrons, vice-patrons and lifelong members to contribute towards aiding those in need.

During the annual meeting of the District Red Cross Society at the Deputy Commissioner’s office auditorium, Khimta emphasised the importance of collective support.

He added that the society at present has nine patrons, three vice-patrons and 1,037 lifelong members. Membership fees are set at Rs 25,000 for patrons, Rs 12,000 for vice-patrons and Rs 2,000 for lifelong members.

Khimta said the society provided financial assistance for medical treatment of members from economically weaker families, particularly those living below the poverty line. He called upon all sections of society to join the organisation and participate in this noble cause.

He also announced that a Red Cross fair would be held at Nahan Chaugan from October 2 to 4. The fair will feature various activities highlighting the organisation’s efforts, along with other events. Additionally, efforts are underway to construct a parking area near the GST office. The meeting also reached a consensus on salary increments and bonuses for employees working under the Red Cross Society.

Discussions during the meeting also included increasing the rent for two shops above the canteen at Dr Yashwant Singh Parmar Medical College, establishing an old-age home in Paonta Sahib and filling vacant positions for sanitation workers.

Sirmaur Assistant Commissioner and Secretary of the District Red Cross Society Gaurav Mahajan presented detailed reports and outlined the activities of the organisation.

The meeting was attended by SDM Paonta Sahib Gunjit Cheema, Chief Medical Officer Sirmaur Dr Ajay Pathak and other government and non-government members of the society.
