Civil-defence dispute resolved, decks cleared for road in Nahan
Solan, August 7
Decks have been cleared for the construction of the Banog-Dhyar Kyari road in Nahan which was caught in a civil-defence dispute for decades.
Residents of 12 villagers will benefit from this 300-m road that will provide direct connectivity to the Nahan-Shimla national highway. Currently, they have to take a long detour through villages to reach the highway. The road will culminate at the New Sabzi Mandi and will also provide an arterial route to villagers to reach Nahan.
The controversy
- This road project was brought under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in 2012, but it could not take off as it was Defence land, on which no construction could be undertaken.
The road project was brought under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in 2012, but it could not take off as it was defence land, on which no construction could be undertaken.
Efforts to find a solution were underway since long and the defence authorities finally granted working permission to construct this road.
Nahan MLA Rajeev Bindal, who did the “bhumi pujan” of this road, said, “It was an incorrect revenue entry made in 1970s which had aggravated the woes of the people residing in the Defence area. The problem has been sorted out and permission has been granted to construct the road.”
Bindal, while addressing people at Majholi, said efforts were also afoot to resolve the woes of the people residing in the defence area. He added, “In the first phase, machinery will be deployed to join the Banog and Dhyar Kyari road midway.”
