Childless couple duped of Rs 50k, police probe on

Fraudster neither helped them adopt child nor returned their money

A childless couple was duped of Rs 50,000 by a fraudster on the promise of helping them adopt a child in Kangra.

After the fraudster did not return the money that was paid in advance by the couple, they filed a police complaint.

Police sources said it was not the first such incident in Kangra as earlier also they had received similar complaints from the Nagrota Bagwan area.

A couple seeking to adopt a child was duped of Rs 1.5 lakh earlier.

In the complaint submitted to the police, a resident of Dharamsala alleged that a resident of Purana Kangra took money from them on pretext of helping them adopt a child.

As he neither helped them adopt the child nor returned the money, the couple approached the Kangra ASP with their complaint.

ASP Veer Bahadur said the Kangra DSP had been instructed to investigate the matter.

If the allegations in the complaint were found to be true, an FIR will be registered and appropriate action would be taken against the accused, he added.
