Chamba District Jail marks World Mental Health Day
The Health and Family Welfare Department of Chamba organised a special event at the District Jail today to mark World Mental Health Day.
District Programme Officer Rohit Nadda shared the details of the event, stating that the objective was to raise awareness about the prevention of mental health issues, and the importance of timely intervention.
Addressing the participants, Nadda explained this year’s theme — Mental Health at Work — and highlighted common symptoms of mental health disorders such as unexplained anger, memory issues, disturbed sleep patterns, excessive or reduced appetite, substance abuse, neglect of personal hygiene or responsibilities and suicidal thoughts.
He also discussed preventive measures to tackle these problems. Nadda urged anyone experiencing these symptoms to seek immediate help from mental health professionals. He also informed the attendees about the nationwide toll-free helpline 14416, which offers 24/7 counselling services in any language.
