The Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) will resume bus service to Lahaul-Spiti on Monday to facilitate residents.
Since November 6, the bus service had been suspended in Lahaul-Spiti because of heavy snowfall. Since then, the residents had been facing difficulties. With the relentless efforts of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), the snow has been cleared on the Keylong-Udaipur road and Keylong-Darcha road.
The HRTC conducted a bus trial on the Udaipur-Keylong road yesterday and found two points, one at Karga and other Kwang Nullah, unfit for the movement of bus. The HRTC urged BRO officials to clear these points for the smooth movement of bus.
The HRTC conducted a bus trial on Keylong-Darcha road today and found one point dangerous near Darcha. The authorities have requested the BRO to clear that point where snow is deposited on the ground, making the road slippery for buses.
Talking to The Tribune, Mangal Manepa, Regional Manager of Keylong Bus Depot, said the bus trial had been conducted successfully on the routes. A few points were found unfit, which would be cleared by the BRO this evening. He said on Monday, the HRTC would flag off the bus service on both routes, which would be a huge relief for the residents.
Residents of the district also hailed the decision and efforts of the BRO.
Ramesh Kumar Rulba, president of Zila Parishad, Lahaul-Spiti, said, “The decision of the HRTC is appreciable and it is the need of the hour. The residents were suffering. We are also thankful to the BRO.”
