Burst crackers only from 8 pm to 10 pm, orders Shimla DC

The district administration in Shimla has allotted a two-hour window, from 8 pm to 10 pm, for residents to burst firecrackers during Diwali celebrations. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap announced this decision, emphasising the need to limit noise and air pollution and ensure public safety.

In a statement to the media, Kashyap urged residents to celebrate responsibly by using only green crackers, which produce less pollution. “Diwali is a significant festival for all of us, and the administration has made arrangements to ensure it is celebrated safely and peacefully,” he said. He also highlighted that only certified green firecrackers will be allowed, with designated areas set for their sale.

The SDMs have been instructed to seize any firecracker that lack green certification. Additionally, unauthorised sales of firecrackers outside the approved areas will lead to strict action, including the confiscation of the products.

Kashyap emphasised the importance of abiding by these guidelines to set a positive example for other regions. He further advised that children should burst firecrackers only under adult supervision to prevent accidents.

Shimla SP Sanjeev Kumar Gandhi stated that police officers would remain on alert throughout Diwali night. Police personnel will patrol the streets to enforce the two-hour limit and to keep a lookout for drug peddlers and other offenders. Stern action will be taken against anyone found violating the designated timeframe for bursting crackers.

The Shimla administration hopes these measures will help ensure a safe and environmentally conscious Diwali celebration for all.
