The Congress today criticised the BJP for launching a false propaganda that the government had not fulfilled the election guarantees and the state was facing a financial crisis for getting political mileage during the campaigning for the Assembly elections in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here, Naresh Chauhan, Chief Media Adviser to Chief Minister, said Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu had tried to put the record straight by addressing election rallies in Haryana in the past two days. “Guided by the vote bank politics, the BJP is misleading voters in Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir to grab power,” he alleged.

“Probably, the former Chief Minsiter and BJP leaders had misinformed Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the facts and figures about Himachal merely to lure voters in Haryana,” he claimed. He said that contrary to the propaganda by BJP leaders, the Congress government had already fulfilled five of the 10 guarantees while the remaining would be honoured during the full five-year term.

Chauhan said that 1.36 lakh employees had benefited from the restoration of the old pension scheme. “Besides, the government has fulfilled another guarantee of starting English medium teaching in government schools and Rs 1,500 monthly financial assistance is being provided to 2.50 lakh women, he added.

He said, “Himachal gets two installments of Rs 189 crore each for undertaking work to restore infrastructure damaged during the monsoon. The Central Government has advanced the release of the December installment of Rs 189 crore but the state has so far not received even one penny with regard to the over Rs 9,000 crore losses Himachal had suffered during the monsoon last year.”
