BJP Kisan Morcha to exceed membership targets: Deshta
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had enrolled more than 1.235 million members in the state in record time, surpassing its initial targets, while the Kisan Morcha had already achieved its target of enrolling 2,20,000 members, Kisan Morcha state president Sanjeev Deshta said in a press conference in Chamba on Thursday.
We are expecting to exceed the target by a large number as the membership drive would end on October 31, said Deshta, attributing the success to the hard work of dedicated party leaders and workers.
Deshta said he had been traveling across the state since October 15, and had been in Chamba for the last three days. “We have reviewed the past activities of the Kisan Morcha and ensured that no farmer, orchardist or labourer is left out of the membership drive,” he added.
Organisation activists had been given the necessary instructions to ensure everyone was included, he said.
The membership drive involved house-to-house outreach, visits to shops and setting up stalls in busy marketplaces and street corners. Many people had voluntarily come forward to join the BJP, Deshta claimed, adding that the overwhelming response stemmed from people’s desire to be part of the party due to Prime Minister Modi’s welfare schemes for the poor, farmers, orchardists and women.
Deshta criticised the Congress-led state government, accusing it of deceiving the public with false promises.
“This is the first government in the state where, within six months, employees, women, students and the general public have taken to the streets in protest,” he said. People were disillusioned with the state government and were turning to the BJP for support, he added.
