Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, while campaigning in Dehra byelections, today said that Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur and BJP did not understand the power of people due to arrogance of money power. Sukhu said former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said in the Assembly that even God cannot save this government. Six rebel MLAs of Congress and three independent MLAs supported the BJP under the conspiracy to topple the government, but the public rejected the politics of money power and the strength of Congress MLAs in Assembly increased from 34 to 38.

Will change law for Pong Dam oustees

  • Sukhu said that Hoshiyar Singh resigned without asking the people of Dehra and now he is asking for votes to become MLA again for three-and-a-half years.
  • The Congress government will complete its five-year term and will also solve the problems of Dehra.
  • “If the law has to be changed to help the Pong Dam displaced people, we will change the law too,” he said.

It is for the first time in history that independent MLAs sat on a dharna and went to court to get their resignation accepted. “The real reason for this was pending second instalment of the deal with the BJP. After the resignation was accepted, all the three independent MLAs, including Hoshiyar Singh, have received their briefcases,” the Chief Minister alleged.

He further alleged that Hoshiyar Singh had mortgaged the honour of Dehra Assembly constituency to the BJP and now the people of Dehra were ready to take revenge for this insult. Hoshiyar Singh will now try to buy votes, but the people will choose development and make Congress candidate Kamlesh Thakur victorious with a huge margin.

Sukhu said that Hoshiyar Singh resigned without asking the people of Dehra and now he was asking for votes to become MLA again for three-and-a-half years. The Congress government would complete its five-year term and also solve the problems of Dehra. “If the law has to be changed to help the Pong Dam displaced people, we will change the law too,” he said.

The Chief Minister campaigned for Kamlesh Thakur in Khairian, Boungta, Bari, Shivnath, Dhawaala, Thakurdwara, Muhal, Rajol and Dehra areas of Dehra Assembly constituency. He said people of Hoshiyar Singh’s own home panchayat were yearning for development. However, his priority was to complete the work of his resort and he has nothing to do with development.

The office of the Superintendent of Police and the office of SE (Public Works Department) will also be opened in Dehra, the notification for which will be issued after the elections. He said that for the first time the Congress party had made a person from a common family from the lower region of the state a Chief Minister.

Sukhu said that since coming to power, the Congress government has made efforts to stop the plunder of the state’s resources and earned additional revenue of Rs 2,200 crore in just one year.

Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, MLAs Sanjay Ratan, Ajay Solanki, State Congress Treasurer Rajesh Sharma and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
