Bilaspur lad adjudged best boxer in state
Asheesh Negi of Bilaspur bagged the best boxer of the state award at the 53rd State Senior Boxing Championship that concluded at Gandhi Chowk here today. As many as 86 boxers from across the state participated in the event. Kutlehar MLA Vivek Sharma awarded prizes to the winners on the occasion. He said organising a boxing event was a great challenge that required the highest levels of security and discipline. He said the Chief Minister was encouraging sports in the state, and the government had provided crores of rupees to develop sports infrastructure.
Earlier, Arun Thakur, district president of the state boxing association, said the championship was organised in 12 weight categories from 51 kg to 92 kg. He said the winners of each category would now participate in the national games, to be held in Uttarakhand in January next year. Anil Mankotia, district general secretary of the association, said the event was organised to push youth towards developing an interest in boxing and to keep them away from drugs.
