A one-day awareness camp was recently organised at Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Arya Samaj, Lower Bazaar, Shimla, under the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign. The event began with a group song by trainee teachers, followed by various activities such as rangoli, slogan writing, painting exhibition and a speech competition focused on eradicating discrimination against girls.

District Programme Officer Mamta Paul highlighted the department’s initiatives for girls’ upliftment, including child protection, improving child sex ratio and combating discrimination. Dr Swati, Ayurvedic Officer, emphasised the importance of a balanced diet for physical and mental well-being, stressing that educating and caring for daughters is crucial. The camp also celebrated Beti Janmotsav, with dignitaries planting a sapling in the name of the daughter. Child Development Project Officer Sneh Lata Negi thanked participants and administered the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao oath.
