32 villages of Una district qualified for the scheme, of which one would be selected for the pilot project
A village in Una district is set to be developed as a ‘Model Solar Village’ under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Electricity Scheme.
Speaking in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal recently said a sum of Rs 1 crore would be spent on the project. As per the guidelines, the beneficiary village should have a population of over 2,000 persons (as per the 2011 Census), he added, noting that 32 villages of the district qualified for the scheme, of which one would be selected for the pilot project.
He said the selected village would be provided with community solar equipment, domestic rooftop solar plants, solar piping system, domestic solar lights and solar streetlights, all linked to the main electricity grid. The objective of the pilot project was to create awareness among the masses about solar electricity, Lal added.
He said, after utilising green energy, villagers would be able to sell their excess power to the state government.Beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Electricity Scheme could install up to 3 kW solar rooftop plants connected to the main grid to avail subsidy on the infrastructure, the DC added.
The amount of subsidy would be Rs 33,000 per kW of solar power installed for the first 2 kW, and Rs 19,800 for the additional installed capacity per kW, according to the DC.

A review meeting for the Prime Minister Surya Ghar free electricity scheme was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan on Monday, focusing on the successful implementation of the initiative in the district. The DC highlighted the government’s subsidy of Rs 33,000 per kW for rooftop solar power plants with capacities up to 3 kW. An additional subsidy of Rs 19,800 is available for each kW above 2 kW. Residents can register online on the PM Surya Ghar portal to take advantage of this scheme, which allows them to utilise the electricity generated from their rooftops for free.
The meeting also addressed plans for the installation of community solar plants, rooftop solar systems, solar pumping systems, solar lights in homes and streetlights in the selected village.
