A village in Una district is set to be developed as a ‘Model Solar Village’ under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Electricity Scheme.

Speaking in this regard, Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal recently said a sum of Rs 1 crore would be spent on the project. As per the guidelines, the beneficiary village should have a population of over 2,000 persons (as per the 2011 Census), he added, noting that 32 villages of the district qualified for the scheme, of which one would be selected for the pilot project.

The objective of the pilot project was to create awareness among the masses about solar electricity, Lal added.

He said, after utilising green energy, villagers would be able to sell their excess power to the state government.Beneficiaries of the PM Surya Ghar Electricity Scheme could install up to 3 kW solar rooftop plants connected to the main grid to avail subsidy on the infrastructure, the DC added.

The amount of subsidy would be Rs 33,000 per kW of solar power installed for the first 2 kW, and Rs 19,800 for the additional installed capacity per kW, according to the DC.
